Do not choose Class 1 only because it appears to be a "higher" licence. Choose it if you genuinely need the additional vehicle range.

Other categories

Class 1 Large & Motorcycle Licence Costs

Class 1 Large — buses, trucks & construction machinery

Applicants must generally be at least 19, have held a Class 1 or Class 2 Regular licence for at least one year, and meet the physical requirements. A separate Class 1 Special licence is required for towing, recovery vehicles and certain trailers — Class 1 Large does not automatically cover every trailer.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a Korean driving licence for a foreigner?

At SDA, the Class 2 program costs 765,000 KRW and Class 1 costs 795,000 KRW. After adding the first academy skills and road tests, the subtotals are 875,000 KRW and 905,000 KRW. Public and administrative fees are additional.

What is a realistic total budget for Class 2?

Approximately 906,000–936,000 KRW for a first-attempt applicant, depending on licence format, textbook purchase and other applicable charges. Retests and extra training are not included.

What is a realistic total budget for Class 1?

Approximately 936,000–966,000 KRW for a first-attempt applicant, depending on licence format, textbook purchase and other applicable charges.

Are government examination fees included?

No. SDA's program fee and academy examination fees are displayed separately. Public written-test, physical-examination, permit and licence-issuance fees may also be charged separately.

Why does the SDA test cost more than the public test-centre fee?

The academy test and the Korea Road Traffic Authority test are different booking routes with different fee structures. SDA's displayed examination fee is for the academy process; the public fee applies when testing directly through an examination centre.

Is VAT included?

Yes. SDA's displayed program prices include 10% VAT.

Do automatic and manual courses cost the same?

The current SDA Class 1 and Class 2 Regular prices are the same for automatic and manual options within the same licence category.

How much does a retest cost?

At SDA, a Class 1 or Class 2 Regular skills or road retest currently costs 55,000 KRW. Other categories have different retest fees.

Is the textbook required?

The English textbook is listed separately at 25,000 KRW. Confirm whether you need to purchase it before registration.

Can I pay by credit card?

Yes. Card payments are available, and three-month interest-free installments may be offered with eligible cards.

Are there discounts for existing licence holders?

The required course and price can be lower if you already hold a qualifying licence — for example, moped-licence holders receive a shorter Class 2 Small Motorcycle course.

How much does driving practice cost if I already have a licence?

Standard-vehicle refresher lessons cost 366,000 KRW for six hours or 580,000 KRW for ten hours. Mid-size car or SUV training costs 384,000 KRW for six hours or 640,000 KRW for ten hours.

Is exchanging a foreign licence cheaper?

Not always. The examination-centre fee for an exchange is small, but Apostille or embassy authentication, entry-exit certificates, translation and courier costs add up, and the process can take several weeks depending on your nationality. Many applicants find that SDA's six-day English programme (875,000 KRW for Class 2, 905,000 KRW for Class 1, including the first test attempts) works out faster and less expensive overall once those extra steps are included. It depends on your situation — compare both routes before deciding.

Can I get an exact price before visiting?

Yes. Send SDA your current licence status, nationality, visa status and required licence category. Staff can confirm the appropriate course and current fees.
