Which Korean licence do I need for a normal car?
For a normal passenger car in Korea you need a Class 2 Regular licence. It covers cars, vans up to 10 seats and trucks up to 4 tons, and is the category most foreign residents take. Training is 13 hours in total, the written pass mark is 60 out of 100, and the programme costs 765,000 KRW including VAT.

How to get your Class 2 licence
The sequence is fixed by the Korea Road Traffic Authority. We book each stage for you.
Step 1
Road safety education
Three hours of mandatory theory at the academy. The English session runs every Saturday from 13:00 to 16:00 — arrive by 12:00 with your ARC to register first.

Written test

What to bring
Alien Registration Card
A valid ARC is required for every foreign applicant. F, E, D and H visas are eligible; a tourist entry without an ARC is not.
Two photos
3.5 × 4.5 cm. There is a photo booth on site if you need them taken on the day.
Policies
Booking, validity and refunds
These rules are set by the academy and apply to every programme.
Training validity
Theory, course practice and on-road lessons must all be completed within 3 months of your start date.
Expiry rules
The course (skills) test must be passed within 6 months of finishing theory. The road test must be passed while your learner's licence is valid — 1 year.
Advance booking
Every practical session must be booked at least 1 hour in advance. Practical training can be scheduled any time the academy is open, 09:00–20:00.
Absence and lateness
30,000 KRW per hour is charged for a missed or late session. The fee is waived if you reschedule at least 24 hours ahead.
Refunds
Full refund before training starts. After it starts, completed hours are deducted and half of the remaining time is refunded.
Traffic penalties
Fines incurred during a lesson or test — signals, speed and similar — are the learner's responsibility.

What is the difference between Class 2 manual and automatic?

What is the difference between Class 1 and Class 2 in Korea?
Class 1 covers larger vehicles — vans up to 15 seats and trucks under 12 tons — while Class 2 is limited to vans up to 10 seats and trucks up to 4 tons. Class 2 also has a lower written pass mark, 60 instead of 70, and costs 30,000 KRW less.
Can I take the Class 2 written test in English?
Yes. The written test is available in English at Korea Road Traffic Authority licensing centres, Monday to Friday between 09:00 and 15:00. SDA's theory class and textbook are in English as well.
