An independent licence covering motorcycles of any engine size. The course test demands 90 out of 100, so the practice hours matter more here than in any other category.

What licence do I need to ride a motorcycle over 125cc in Korea?

You need a Class 2 Small licence (2종 소형). It is an independent licence: a car licence, including Class 1 Large, does not permit riding anything above 125cc. Training is 10 hours of course practice for new applicants or 6 hours for moped licence holders, the course test pass mark is 90 out of 100, and there is no road driving test.

What you can ride

All motorcycles

Any engine size, with no upper cc limit.

Motorized bicycles

125cc and below is included, so a separate moped licence is unnecessary once you hold this one.

This is an independent licence. Even Class 1 Large holders cannot legally ride a motorcycle over 125cc without it. There is no route that grants it automatically from a car licence.

90 out of 100 is the strictest mark we test to. A car licence only needs 80 on the course. That ten-point gap is why we recommend using all your allocated practice hours rather than booking the test early.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How much does a motorcycle licence over 125cc cost in Korea?

It depends on what you already hold. Unlicenced applicants and car licence holders pay 472,000 KRW for 3 hours of lecture plus 10 hours of course practice. Moped licence holders pay 247,500 KRW for 6 hours of course practice with no lecture. A 4,000 KRW insurance fee is added at registration.

What is the passing score for the motorcycle licence test?

90 out of 100 on the course test — the highest pass mark of any category at the academy. The written test requires 60 out of 100 and is waived if you already hold another licence. There is no road driving test.

Can I ride a motorcycle with a car licence in Korea?

Only up to 125cc. Anything above 125cc requires a Class 2 Small licence, and this holds even for Class 1 Large holders. It is an independent licence, not an add-on to a car licence.

What causes an immediate fail on the motorcycle test?

Failing to start within 20 seconds, skipping any test task, or having an accident or leaving the course.

How long does the motorcycle licence take?

Course practice is 10 hours for new applicants or 6 hours for moped licence holders, and can be scheduled any day between 09:00 and 20:00. The licence is issued within about ten days of passing.
