Working holiday stays are limited and not routinely extended, and training hours expire three months after your start date. An IDP instead of a Korean licence
Cheapest of all, if you planned ahead
If you already hold a home licence and only need to rent a car occasionally, an international driving permit carried with the original licence is the cheapest route by a wide margin.
Valid in Korea for one year from its issue date
Must be obtained in the country that issued your licence — you cannot get one here
Carry it together with the original licence and your passport
Privately sold "International Driving Licence" cards are not accepted
The catch is that it must be arranged before you travel. If you are already in Korea without one, this option has closed.

Gangwon-do and the coastal road are difficult to see properly on public transport.
Rural work
Farm and resort placements are frequently a long way from any bus route.

A rental shared between four people is often cheaper than four bus tickets.

The licence survives your visa. Plenty of working holiday participants return on a work visa.

Saturday theory class
Three hours in English, 13:00 to 16:00. Register by 12:00 with your ARC. This is the only fixed date in the whole sequence.
Day 2–3
Written test at an examination centre
Monday to Friday, in English. Go the following week rather than leaving it — this is where delays creep in.
Retake next day if you fail

Course practice and the skills test
Four hours on the circuit, then the test. Skills tests run Tue and Fri at 11:00 and Sat at 14:00.

You need either a Korean licence or a valid international driving permit carried with your original home licence. Jeju airport rental desks check carefully and turn people away daily, so arrange it before you fly.
Is my Korean licence still valid after I leave?
Yes, it remains valid until its renewal date and does not lapse with your visa. That matters if you return to Korea later on a work visa, which a fair number of working holiday participants do.
